Newell's Old Boys fans campaigning for Messi return
Lionel Messi is (of course) an all-time FC Barcelona legend. But prior to wearing the Blue & Red and for a lot of Argentine fans – Messi belongs to Newell's Old Boys, the team he grew up playing at in Argentina. During their local team recent match vs Tigre, The fans hold a banner reading: "Messi, your dreams are our hopes. Newell's support you and are waiting for you". Messi himself already told in the past it will be a dream come true to play for his home team before he retires, but we have a feeling that at age 29 – he still have a few good years until this will happen.
Wenger refuses PSG not 1 not 2 but 3 times
Arsene Wenger is celebrating 20 + years as Arsenal manager. Just before his team will start their Champions League Group A matches vs PSG at the Parc des Princes, Wenger surprised many by telling the media he turned down 3 different approaches from the Parisian club in the past because of his loyalty to Arsenal. “I have known Sheikh bin Kalifa (PSG owner) for a long time, but I always feel I remained loyal to Arsenal because I think it’s a club that has the qualities I love", explained Wenger that added: “That is why I have stayed in England for all this time”.
Shearer gets his well-earned respect
Alan Shearer is one of the greatest ever to play in the English Premier League. The former striker, won a Championship with Blackburn but spent most of his career with Newcastle United where he scored 148 goals in 303 games for the Magpies before retiring in 2006. In order to "properly recognize" his career with the Geordies, a 2.89m tall statue of Shearer was unveiled outside St James Park, valued for £250,000 and shaped with the striker famous "one hand in the air" goal celebration.
